Mental Health First Aid

What is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)?

Many people are familiar with physical first aid courses, which teach essential skills to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies across various situations.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training follows a similar approach. Through a practical, skills-based action plan, participants learn how to identify and assist someone experiencing a mental health issue or crisis until professional help is available.

Adults who complete the MHFA course and a short assessment will become Accredited MHFAiders. Participants are equipped with the skills to listen, connect, and provide support when it is most needed.

MHFAiders play a crucial role in reducing stigma and promoting access to support for individuals facing mental health challenges.

Standard MHFA Course

The Standard MHFA course is delivered by MHFA trained and licensed instructor, Belinda Furse. The course will empower participants to:

1. Recognise the warning signs of mental health problems in adults.
2. Develop the skills to have open and supportive conversations about mental health.
3. Respond effectively across a range of crisis situations.
4. Reduce stigma and increase support for adults living with mental health problems.
